The Secretary General heads the National Assembly's services and performs other tasks provided by regulations, the Rules of Procedure, and other acts of the National Assembly. The Secretary General is appointed by the National Assembly.

Office of the President of the National Assembly
The Office of the President carries out technical, consultative, organisational and administrative tasks for the President and Vice-Presidents of the National Assembly.

Legislative and Legal Service
The Legislative and Legal Service issues opinions on the conformity of draft laws, other acts and amendments with the Constitution and the legal system, and on legislative and technical aspects of drafts; provides expertise for the formulation of the opinions or replies of the National Assembly concerning cases of constitutional review and the legality of acts before the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia; issues opinions on other issues in accordance with the Rules of Procedure; issues opinions to the President of the National Assembly and explanations to the deputies concerning legal issues; prepares official consolidated texts of laws and edits the texts of laws and other acts adopted by the National Assembly and published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia.

The Office of the Secretary General carries out technical and administrative tasks for the Secretary General as well as tasks related to internal auditing and security.

Public Relations Office
The Public Relations Office provides information to the public about the work of the National Assembly and its working bodies and about its international and other activities; provides the material conditions for the work of media representatives in the National Assembly; issues the National Assembly's gazette and other publications; and communicates with various segments of the public.

The Secretariat of the National Assembly performs technical and administrative tasks relating to the organisation and conduct of the sessions of the National Assembly and meetings of its working bodies, international relations and protocol, and research and documentation. For such purpose, the following two divisions have been established:

National Assembly Operations Division
The Section for Preparing and Conducting Sessions of the National Assembly and Its Working Bodies examines various issues, draft laws and other acts, and EU affairs; issues expert opinions and positions; prepares reports, conclusions, analyses, information and other materials; provides expertise for the formulation of the opinions or replies of the National Assembly concerning cases of constitutional review and the legality of acts before the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia; provides expertise for the decisions of the National Assembly concerning authentic interpretations of laws and other acts of the National Assembly; provides expertise in relation to policy-making in individual areas and monitors the implementation thereof; and provides explanations concerning the Rules of Procedure.
The above tasks are carried out by the officials of individual working bodies, i.e. individual commissions and committees. In addition to the Secretary and a clerk, each working body also has one or more officials, depending on the extent of the areas covered.
In addition to the tasks carried out for their commission, the officials of the Commission for Public Office and Elections also deal with matters in connection with the status and personnel issues of deputies and other functionaries; keep the personnel register of such; and provide the material conditions for the work of the deputies.
In addition to the tasks carried out for their commission, the officials of the Commission for Petitions, Human Rights and Equal Opportunities also deal with and carry out technical tasks regarding petitions, submissions and complaints addressed or referred to the National Assembly.

The Department for Preparing and Conducting Sessions of the National Assembly and Its Working Bodies examines various issues, draft laws and other acts, and EU affairs; issues expert opinions and positions; prepares reports, conclusions, analyses, information and other materials; provides expertise for the formulation of the opinions or replies of the National Assembly concerning cases of constitutional review and the legality of acts before the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia; provides expertise for the decisions of the National Assembly concerning authentic interpretations of laws and other acts of the National Assembly; provides expertise in relation to policy-making in individual areas and monitors the implementation thereof, and provides explanations concerning the Rules of Procedure.
The above tasks are carried out by the officials of individual working bodies, i.e. individual commissions and committees. In addition to the Secretary and an administrative assistant, each working body also has one or more officials, depending on the extent of the areas covered.

Section for International Relations, Protocol, and Translation
The Section for International Relations, Protocol and Translation carries out tasks related to the international activities of the National Assembly; provides expert assistance to delegations in international organisations; organises and conducts protocol events; and provides translation and editing of texts as well as simultaneous and consecutive interpretation from Slovene into foreign languages and vice versa.

Research and Documentation Division
The Research and Documentation Division provides a variety of politically unbiased data and information, thereby meeting the informational needs arising in the implementation of the fundamental tasks and objectives of the National Assembly, as provided by the Constitution, the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly, laws and other acts. Thus, it indirectly contributes to better and more efficient functioning of the National Assembly as well as to increased openness and transparency of its operations.

Research Section
The Research Section prepares research studies on various issues, expert analyses related to the work of the National Assembly, its working bodies and services, as well as comparative reviews of legal solutions, the provisions of the Rules of Procedure, the status of deputies, the functioning of parliaments, etc. The Research Section also draws up regular reports on National Assembly's work.

Documentation and Library Section
The Documentation and Library Section acts as a specialised library or specialised information centre, providing to internal users (i.e. leading officials of the National Assembly, deputy groups, deputies and their associates) a variety of information such users need in relation to the legislative procedure and other tasks.
To external users, the Section provides information regarding the legislative procedure and other activities of the National Assembly.
Moreover, the Documentation and Library Section provides language editing of the verbatim records of National Assembly sessions and official correspondence, and offers linguistic advice.

Organisation and Personnel Section
The Organisation and Personnel Section is responsible for the organisation and development of National Assembly's services, for the organisation and implementation of its personnel policy (personnel planning and development, keeping personnel records, exercising employment rights and duties), and for the education and training programmes for civil servants and deputies. This Section also organises and monitors the implementation of tasks relating to safety and health at work, and provides for the implementation of tasks relating to additional expert assistance to the deputies.

The Finance and Accounting Section carries out financial and accounting tasks and prepares the basic positions for the financial plan and the annual business report.

Improvements and Maintenance Section
The Improvements and Maintenance Department is responsible for planning, organising and coordinating current facility improvements and maintenance; providing facility management and janitorial services; carrying out tasks relating to safety at work and fire protection; purchasing fixed assets, equipment, office supply and other materials; and for the cleaning and physical planning of the building.
